Discover Manuka Honey

Sourced From New Zealand

Manuka Honey

This rare and special New Zealand honey is made from the nectar of the native Manuka plant (Leptospermum scoparium), which our clever bees collect and transform into Manuka honey, highly valued for its rare and complex properties.

It is the nectar of the New Zealand Manuka flower that contributes the unique natural ingredients to Manuka honey that make it so different to other honeys. Manuka honey is rare – it is only made in New Zealand, and can only be made for a few weeks a year when the Manuka plant is in flower. The amount of honey produced can vary greatly depending on weather conditions and how much nectar is produced.

The Manuka Bush

Manuka Honey

The Manuka  is a common small tree or shrub found around New Zealand, particularly in drier areas where it is generally the dominant shrubland plant. The manuka plant is related to the Australian ‘tea tree’ (melaleuca) and both have many medicinal uses.

Manuka comes from the same family of plants, Myrtaceae, as tea tree. This family also includes eucalyptus, myrtle, and kanuka. The essential oilis derived from the leaves, twigs, and branches which are picked and then distilled using steam.

Manuka Honey Benefits

Manuka Honey

Manuka honey may help soothe sore throats, protect your body against the common cold and assist in relieving sinus infections. It can also help address eye, ear and sinus infections, and even diabetes, although more information is needed to determine this link.

Animal studies have shown that Manuka honey has antioxidant capabilities that may provide protection against oxidative damage by neutralizing free radicals. Other research also proved that Manuka honey exhibits anti-inflammatory properties that may aid in lowering risk for tissue damage and bacterial infections.
